Arrival to Quito

Transfer and accommodation in hotel.

Visit to Quito’s Old Town and botanical garden

Half day visit to Quito’s Old Town and botanical garden. During this 4-hour tour, you will see the main attractions of Quito’s Old Town such as the churches San Francisco and La Compañia, the main plaza and the Archbishop’s Palace. You’ll get to see a spectacular view of the city and learn about Quito’s typical food and traditions.

Afterwards, you’ll head to a more modern side of the city and visit the botanical garden, exhibiting the native flora of the Andes, as well as an impressive orchid garden.

Return to your hotel. Meals included: breakfast – lunch.

North of Ecuador

On Day 3, you’ll travel to the north of Ecuador. After approximately 2 hours, you will arrive at the Cuicocha crater and lagoon. Here you will walk for 2 – 3 hours, at an altitude between 3050 – 3350 meters, and observe a dazzling landscape teeming with native flora.

After this excursion, you’ll visit a spectacled bear reserve, which will take approximately 2 and a half hours. In this reserve you will have the opportunity to observe the bears between 17h00 and 19h00. This type of bear is the only species found in Latin America; it is in danger of extinction and very timid. You’ll get to learn about their behavior and habitat.

Bears watching

In the early morning you’ll be able to observe the spectacled bears through binoculars and walk in the surrounding area. After breakfast, you’ll embark on a wonderful adventure in Mindo, with a stop at Condor Park, a rehabilitation center for birds.

Mindo and birdwatching

Day 4 will start with birdwatching in the morning. Mindo is a special place for birdwatching; here you can observe many hummingbird species, tanagers, tinamou, as well as the Olinga, a small opossum that lives in the region of Mindo. You will walk with your local guide along the different marked trails exploring native vegetation, orchid species and trees.

Cock of the rock

At dawn, you’ll go to a place where flocks of birds gather and possibly see the famous “cock of the rock,” as well as the giant Antpitta at the Peace of the Birds Refuge. The last 30 minutes of the day are ideal to spot the birds here.

Later, you will head to your hotel near the airport. Accommodation at the hotel.

Antisana Reserve

Visit to the Antisana Reserve to observe wild Andean Condors.

Transfer to the Antisana Natural Reserve, located to the east, a large, snow-covered volcano at 5780 m. The Reserve is home to wildlife such as deer, foxes, wild horses and the Andean Condor, the largest bird species in the world. In the afternoon you will return to your hotel.

El Edén Eco Lodge

Outing to the Amazon (5 días) at El Edén Eco Lodge.
Transfer to airport and morning flight to Coca.
Start of excursions

Edén Amazon Lodge is one of the most exclusive accommodation options in the Ecuadorian Amazon, offering only 6 cabins for a total capacity of 12 guests. This enables a lot of flexibility when it comes to organizing guest activities. Here is one example of what a 4 day, 3 night trip could look like:

Pick up from airport in Coca and transport to the Napo River (10 minute drive).

Travel by private motorized canoe sent by Eden. A boxed lunch will be served on board during the trip. After 2.5 – 3.5 hours (depending on the river level), you will arrive at the entrance of Eden, where guests will walk with their bilingual guide through the forest for approximately 30 minutes to the Yuturi River, where they will board paddle canoes to Eden Amazon Lodge.

After settling into your cabins and a brief rest, you will walk with your bilingual guide for approximately one hour on the Parahuaco Trail (Saki Monkey Trail).

Dinner will be served at 7:00 PM, followed by a briefing on the activities for the following days.

Wangana trail

The day begins at 6:30 AM, followed by breakfast at 7:00 AM. A bilingual guide and a Kichwa guide will lead you on a 2.5 hour hike on the Wangana trail, where guests will be transported to the Lodge in paddle canoes for lunch (1:00 PM). The trail and river offer excellent opportunities to observe monkeys, birds and other wildlife.

After lunch guests will be invited to paddle around Yuturi Cocha (Lake Yuturi) to enjoy the wildlife and later a sunset from the lake.

Dinner will be served at 7:00 PM, followed by a small meeting to discuss the activities over the next few days. Guests can participate in a guided night walk, where night monkeys are sometimes seen along with many other creatures, such as spiders, frogs and insects.

Otorongo trail

Start of the day at 6:00 AM, followed by breakfast at 6:30 AM

Guests will be guided by their bilingual guide during a 7-hour walk on the Otorongo trail and will return by canoe. Lunch will be served in the jungle. In the evening, a shaman from the community at Eden (when available) will demonstrate the practices of shamanism, to those interested.

Yuturi lake and local Shaman

Breakfast at 6:30 AM, followed by a paddle canoe ride around Lake Yuturi and then a 30 minute walk on the Napo River. From the Napo River, a small boat will take you to the community at Eden, where guests can buy handicrafts and meet the owners of Eden Amazon Lodge.

Then, on the way back to Eden Amazon Lodge, guests will be able to swim in the Napo River from a small island. Lunch will be served on a beach and a soccer game will be organized.

After lunch and the soccer game, guests will return to the hotel. At the end of the afternoon, a visit of the local Shaman will be organized and a cleaning or “limpia” will be performed on guests (subject to availability of the Shaman).

Dinner at 7:00PM

Departure to Coca

An early start and departure to Coca. Breakfast will be served on the boat. Transfer to the airport and a flight back to Quito is planned for midday.

Upon arrival in Quito, you will be taken to your next hotel called Guango Lodge. This pleasant hotel is located on a private property, 1 hour by car, east of the airport, surrounded by temperate forests. Birds, mammals and orchids can be photographed here. Overnight at the hotel.

Transfer to airport

After a quiet morning exploring the surroundings, you will be taken back to the airport. Here you say goodbye to your tour guide and fly home or, if you can extend your vacation, we recommend a visit to the Galapagos Islands.
