Arrival to Quito
Arrival to Quito airport and transfer to hotel. Brief introduction and accommodation.
Quito’s Old Town and travel to the north of Ecuador
After a short visit to Quito’s Old Town, you will travel to the north of Ecuador and, on the way, visit Condor Park, a rehabilitation center for condors and birds of prey. You will get a taste of delicious salt cakes, typical of the Cayambe region, and straight out of the oven. You’ll continue to Hosteria Pantavi where you can enjoy its gardens and take a refreshing dip in the pool.
Dinner and rest.
After a delicious and complete breakfast, you’ll head to a nearby cloud forest for a hike where you’ll learn about medicinal plants and enjoy large waterfalls along the way. You will return to the lodge for lunch and, in the afternoon, relax in the hot springs pools, enjoying the solar-heated water. After this activity, you will return to the lodge in the evening for dinner and to rest.
If it’s a Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday, we will take you to Ibarra (40min), the capital of the Imbabura province. After a short visit to the local market, you will take a train ride from Ibarra to a nearby town called Salinas. You’ll pass through tunnels, sugar cane plantations and end your journey at an Afro-Ecuadorian village. Local women will welcome you with a traditional dance.
For lunch, you’ll return to the lodge and, in the afternoon, you’ll have the option to join a painting class or enjoy nearby organic steam baths.
After dinner you can enjoy a cozy campfire to the sounds of nature and count the stars. Rest.
On Day 5 you’ll travel to your next surprise: Hacienda Porvenir. This beautiful hacienda house, located at the foot of Cotopaxi volcano, will be your home for the next 3 nights. On the way, you’ll visit the Cuicocha lagoon and take a 2 to 3 hour hike, have lunch at a local family home and head back to Porvenir. Dinner and overnight stay.
On this day you’ll train on horses and learn about the ”chagras”, followed by cooking and cow milking classes. You will end the day feeling like a real farmer. Rest in Porvenir.
After a delicious breakfast, enjoy a self-guided hike where you can observe the majestic Cotopaxi volcano. The afternoon will continue with high ropes classes. Rest and lodging in Porvenir.
On Day 8 you’ll visit Cotopaxi National Park and hike up to 4800 m for an exciting experience and view before returning to Quito. It is a full day of activity that includes lunch to go. Night in Quito.
